Installation & Repair of Telecommunications Equipment

The field of telecommunications is in constant evolution with huge demands from industry for qualified technicians.

Graduates of the Installation and Repair of Telecommunications Equipment at the Pearson Electrotechnology Centre are trained to be versatile and polyvalent in order to adapt to constant technological changes.

Through hands on teaching and a mandatory work-study component, students will develop the necessary skills needed to succeed in this field. The course is approximately 16 months (1800 hours) including three weeks of work study. Students who complete the program will receive a Diplôme d'Études Professionnelles (DEP).

Careers available upon graduation from the Installation and Repair of Telecommunications Equipment Program:

  • Telecommunications Installation and Repair Worker
  • Cable Television Service and Maintenance Worker
  • Fitter of communications equipment
  • Antennas Installation Worker

The training will focus on acquiring the following competencies:

  • Acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to install cables and telecommunications equipment in telecommunications central offices
  • Establish connections to a wired and wireless telecommunications network
  • Install and repair wires and equipment
  • Install and repair cable television systems

Possible workplaces:

  • In companies that manufacture telecommunications equipment
  • Telecommunications service companies
  • Cable television companies
  • Self employed

Fees

Tuition is free for Canadian citizens or landed immigrants with permanent residence in Quebec. A non-refundable application fee and about $700 for student fees, books and supplies are charged. All fees are subject to change without notice.
